چکیده

We present further results from a high speed photometric survey of faint cataclysmic variables. We find that V842 Cen (Nova Cen 1986 No. 2) is highly active, but with no evident orbital modulation. BY Cir (Nova Cir 1995) is an eclipsing system with an orbital period (Porb) of 6.76 h. TV Crv, an SU UMa type dwarf nova, is found to have Porb = 1.509 h from photometry at quiescence. DD Cir (Nova Cir 1999) is an eclipsing system with Porb = 2.339 h, a possible secondary eclipse, and a ∼670 s photometric modulation. V655 CrA is highly active but shows no orbital modulation. The identification of V794 Oph is probably incorrect as we find no photometric variability. CP Cru (Nova Cru 1996) is an eclipsing system with Porb = 22.7 h. V992 Sco has Porb = 3.686 h from its periodic modulation. The supposed identification of EU Sct is probably incorrect. And finally, during one run V373 Sct (Nova Sct 1975) had a 258.3 s coherent periodicity, making it a candidate DQ Herculis star.

High Speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables : I . V 359 Cen

The first results of a photometric survey of faint Cataclysmic Variables are presented. V359 Cen is an SU UMa star with a period of 112 min. Even though observed at quiescence, the mass transfer rate in this old nova may be sufficiently high that in such a short period system (with its implied small mass ratio) the disc may be excited into an elliptical shape with the result that the observed b...

High speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables : II . RS Car , V 365 Car , V 436 Car

Short time scale photometric properties of eight faint Cataclysmic Variable (CV) stars are presented. Nova Carinae 1895 (RS Car) has a photometric modulation at 1.977 h which could be either an orbital or a superhump period. Nova Carinae 1948 (V365 Car) shows flickering, but any orbital modulation has a period in excess of 6 h. The nova-like variable and X-ray source V436 Car has an orbital mod...

Spectroscopic Observations of Twenty - one Faint Cataclysmic Variables Candidates ⋆

We provide the first minimum light spectroscopic observations for 21 previously known or suspected faint cataclysmic variable candidates. The sources were selected from the Downes et al. (2001) living edition catalog and the identified candidates have minimum light magnitudes of V∼18-22. We confirm 15 of the candidates to be cataclysmic variables.

VLT/FORS spectroscopy of faint cataclysmic variables discovered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

We present medium-resolution VLT/FORS2 spectroscopy of six cataclysmic variables discovered by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We determine orbital periods for SDSS J023322.61+005059.5 (96.08 ± 0.09min), SDSS J091127.36+084140.7 (295.74 ± 0.22min), SDSS J103533.02+055158.3 (82.10 ± 0.09min), and SDSS J121607.03+052013.9 (most likely 98.82 ± 0.16min, but the one-day aliases at 92min and 107min are...

Discovery of Two New Faint Cataclysmic Variables ⋆

We report on the discovery of two new faint cataclysmic variables. The objects were selected as candidates from two different imaging surveys aimed at the discovery of such faint systems. One survey used color and variability while the other used color and Hα emission as selection criteria. We present our spectra of the two new variables and discuss their properties. A discussion of the implica...
